Bike Loan Scheme Gives Kirkcaldy Workers a Boost

MORE THAN 30 people working in Kirkcaldy are discovering the benefits of cycling thanks to a new workplace bike loan scheme.

Staff from MGT and Victoria Hospital are taking part in ‘Bikeboost’ which gives employees a bike on loan for free for five weeks. Participants also receive a full set of new accessories including a helmet, lock, lights and high-visibility jacket.

They record the number of miles they’ve cycled for work and leisure online and are supported by Get Cycling throughout the five-week trial with free repairs and advice. At the end of that period, they can buy their bike at cost price (about £230).

Debbie Leishman, who works at MGT and is one of 32 people taking part in Bikeboost, said: “I‘ve been really surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed it. I never thought I would be able to do a three-hour cycle and still want to do more!”

Fellow participant Lorraine Fildes is also enjoying the experience: “I love it - I'm out cycling whenever I have a spare minute. I’m starting to feel the benefits to my health, and I am using my car less which is saving on fuel. I was also lucky enough to be loaned a trailer for my bike so my two-year-old son can enjoy it too.”
