Walk for fun

Places to walk

There are loads of great places in Kirkcaldy to go for a walk:

  • Beveridge Park, which includes rose and flower gardens, bog garden and woodland walks as well as facilities for many sports from bowls to skateboarding.
  • Ravenscraig Park has woodland walks and links to the coastal path, as well as access to Ravenscraig Castle and the Harbourmaster’s House.
  • Dunnikier Park in the north of the town also has woodland walks as well as a skatepark, and is linked to other areas by signed cycle routes.
  • The Fife Coastal Path extends for more than 80 miles and around Kirkcaldy offers lots of interesting sights

Local Walking Groups

If you'd like to join a friendly walking group or perhaps take part in a guided walking event there are a couple of local groups to consider:

Bums Off Seats

Bums off Seats is a walking initiative which aims to get more people more active more often.  Free local health walks are held in Kirkcaldy and around Fife, and all walks are led by a trained team of Volunteer Walk Leaders.  The walks are short (up to one hour) and take place mostly on paths and tracks.

For more information about Bums off Seats visit their website or contact Vivienne McNiven on 01592 583343.

Kirkcaldy Ramblers

The Kirkcaldy Ramblers organise a year-round programme of led walks across Fife and other areas of Scotland.  The group welcomes all walkers and offers a range of graded routes to suit all abilities.  Where walks are held further afield members are encouraged to share transport.

The Kirkcaldy Ramblers are part of the national network of walking groups run by the national walking charity, The Ramblers.  The charity campaigns to protect the natural beauty of our countryside, promote walking and safeguard public access to land.  To sustain the work of the charity all participants that join a local walking group are required to become a member of the Ramblers.  A range of affordable membership options, with benefits, are available.

For more information about the Kirkcaldy Ramblers and their walk programme please contact the Walks Co-ordinator on 01592 784553.

Kirkcaldy Civic Society

During the summer months the Kirkcaldy Civic Society runs a series of guided walks around Kirkcaldy.  The walks, which are usually no longer than 2 miles, include an informative talk about the area the walk is passing through.

Over the winter months guest speakers give evening talks on a range of topics which are linked with Kirkcaldy or Fife.

To find out more about the walkabouts or talks, have a look at the Kirkcaldy Civic Society website.
