Make your move in 2012!

Make your move Kirkcaldy has had a great year in 2011 and there's more to come in 2012!

During 2011, Make your move Kirkcaldy ran a series of successful events with activities for all ages like bike try-outs and stunt displays, finishing with a fun day in Ravenscraig Park in September which attracted more than 800 visitors. These events were also a great chance to give out information on sustainable travel and get feedback on what would make people walk, cycle and use public transport more. More fun events will be planned for 2012, as well as some new and exciting ideas.

A key part of the project is the development of a network of routes for both cyclists and pedestrians, including the newly extended cycle routes at Dunnikier Way and Oriel Road. Fife Council and Sustrans will continue to look at potential improvements to cycling and walking routes in the town, and cycle parking as well.

Activities to look out for in 2012 include cycle training to build confidence, bike sales in Kirkcaldy in partnership with Bikeworks, and a series of led cycle rides, called CycleStart, for people who are new to cycling or haven’t been on a bike for a while. During 2011 lots of people have said they would like to cycle more but need a bit more confidence or training - these activities in 2012 will help lots of people to get out on their bikes, getting around Kirkcaldy in a cheap, healthy and fun way.

There will also be a continuing focus on schools, and a new dedicated cycling officer is delivering a range of inspiring activities in nine Kirkcaldy schools and two other Fife schools. This is part of Sustrans’ I Bike project to encourage children to cycle and will build on existing work by Fife Council to promote cycling and walking to school.
